Question

A rock with mass = 4.00 falls from rest in a viscous medium. The rock is acted on by a net constant downward force of = 15.3 (a combination of gravity and the buoyant force exerted by the medium) and by a fluid resistance force , where is the speed in and = 2.39 .

a)Find the initial acceleration .

b)Find the acceleration when the speed is 3.10 .

c)Find the speed when the acceleration equals 0.1

d)Find the terminal speed

e)Find the coordinate 2.30s after the start of the motion.

f)Find the speed 2.30s after the start of the motion.

g)Find the acceleration 2.30s after the start of the motion.

h)Find the time required to reach a speed 0.9

Explanation / Answer

F = ma

.Net Force = 15.3

but Vo = 0

So Net Force = 15.3 N, and m = 4.00 Kg

a0 = 15.3 / 4.00 = 3.82 m/s2

b)Find the acceleration when v = 3.10 m/s

Net F = 15.3 - (2.39)(3.1)

= 7.89 N

a= F/m = 7.89 / 4

= 1.97 m/s2
