A diverging lens of focal length f = -8.7 cm forms images of an object situated at various distances. Find the position of the image and the magnification if the object is 17.3 cm from the lens.

I did (1/-8.7)-(-1/17.3)= -0.0571 then i did 1/-0.0571 which equals -17.5.

However this is wrong and webassign is saying "You used an equation which correctly described the relationship between the image distance, object distance, and the focal length, but you made an algebraic mistake when solving for the image distance." ________cm

Please help!

1/f = 1/di +1/do

=>-1/8.7 = 1/di + 1/17.3

=>1/di = -1/8.7 - 1/17.3 = -0.17275

=>di = -5.789cm

Manification = -di/do = 5.789/17.3 = 0.3346
