Question
Two electrons are fixed 2.00 centimeters apart. Another electron is shot from infinity and comes to rest midway between the two fixed electrons. (Show work below. Label the section A, B or C to which the work belongs). Find the initial energy of the system (that is, just as the electron is shot from infinity). The speed of the electron is an unknown quantity, so leave it as a variable, v0. Find the final energy of the system (if there is an unknown quantity, leave it as a variable). Find the initial speed of the electronExplanation / Answer
The initial speed does not care where the electron winds up! ie. between two other electrons. If the electron is being 'shot' does that mean it is being accelerated? Hmmm, well anyway the electron travels at around the speed of light and I believe that is 300,000,000 meters per second. speed of light = 186,249 miles per second. = 3.0 X10^8 m/s.
