Question
The gas in a cylinder is initially at point A, where the pressure is 1.6 x 10^5 Pa and the volume is 30 L. The gas is taken through the following processes:1) isochoric cooling from A to B (pressure 6 x 10^4 Pa);
2) isobaric expansion from B to C (volume 45 L).
Sketch the processes on a pV-diagram, and
a) find the work done by the gas in the two processes;
b) If the heat released by the gas is 450 J in the process AB and the heat absorbed by the gas is 1800 J in the process BC, find the changes of its internal energy in these two processes.
Explanation / Answer
a) For isochoric process,V=0 and work done is zero.
Work done for isobaric process=PV=6*104*(45-30)*10-3=900J
b)Q=1800-450=1350J
U=Q-W=450J
