Question

You are standing at x=0;{ m m}, listening to seven identical sound sources described by the figure. At t=0;{ m s}, all seven are at x=343;{ m m} and moving as shown below. The sound from all seven will reach your ear at t=1;{ m s}.

Rank in order, from highest to lowest, the seven frequencies f_1 to f_7 that you hear at t=1;{ m s}.

Please explain how to do this?

Explanation / Answer

We use the doppler effect f = (c/c+vs) f0 *vs is positive if away from source, negative if towards source (f0 is actual freq, vs is vel of source) (c=vel of waves in the medium, depends on medium property, c=330 appx for air) So f1 = (c/c+vs) vs>50 (speedin up) f2 = (c/c+50) f3 = (c/c+vs) vs50 f6 = (c/c-50) f7 = (c/c-vs) vsf6>f7>f4>f3>f2>f1 Hope you got it :)
