Question

be speciiic bot how such mutations may arect gene function (0.5 pt each, total 1 pt). 3. DNA repair pathways occur in both dividing and non-dividing cells a) List two DNA repair pathways that occur only in dividing cells (0.5 pt)? b) List two DNA repair pathways that may occur in non-dividing cells (0.5 pt)? Sequencing genomes of tumor cells identifies many mutations in the genome of tumor cells. 4. However, most mutations in tumors do not drive cancer. Please explain why (1pt). 5. Two pure-breeding lines of mouse (strain a and strain b) have been obtained. Each mouse line has a mutation in a single gene. Both lines have shorter life span as compared to the wild-type mouse. Three crosses between strain a and the wild type, between strain b and the wild type, as well as between strain a and strain b always produce 100% wild-type mice offspring with normal growth. Please explain in how the three crosses will not produce mouse with short life span.

Explanation / Answer

3. A) two DNA repair pathways for only diving cells are: Nucleotide Exiscion Repair and Single Strand Break Repair

B) two DNA repair pathways for only non diving cells are: Double Strand Break Repair and Mismatch Repair

4. It is being debated that the mutations in the DNA do not drive Tumor initiations. There are a number of reasons for these mutations to occur. These mutations are known to be the passenger mutations and are known to not drive the progression to metastatic disease. The passenger mutations have no direct effect on them growth of the cells. These are randomly distributed in the genome and are not concentrated or clustered around the oncogenes. These are only responsible in activating the MAP kinase pathway as well as increasing the signals of growth. .
