Question

A object of mass 3.00 kg is subject to a force Fx that varies with position as in the figure below.

speed at x = 5.00 m     m/s speed at x = 15.0 m     m/s A object of mass 3.00 kg is subject to a force Fx that varies with position as in the figure below. Find the work done by the force on the object as it moves from x = 0 to x = 2.00 m Find the work done by the force on the object as it moves from x = 5.00 m to x = 7.00 m Find the work done by the force on the object as it moves from x = 13.0 m to x = 15.0 m. If the object has a speed of 0.500 m/s at x = 0, find its speed at x = 5.00 m and its speed at x = 15.0 m.

Explanation / Answer

work done = area under graph

a)so workdone till x = 2 is area till x =2

so workdone = (2*3/5)*0.5*2 = 1.2 J

b) workdone = 3*2 = 6J

c) workdone = area = 6/5 = 1.2 J

d) 0.5mv^2 - 0.5m*0.5^2 = 15/2 = 7.5

so v = 2.29 m/s

e) 0.5mv^2 - 0.5m*0.5^2 = 30 J

so v = 4.5m/s
