Question

From the top of a tall building, a gun is fired. The bullet leaves the gun at a speed of 325 m/s, parallel to the ground. As the drawing shows, the bullet puts a hole in a window of another building and hits the wall that faces the window. h is 0.46 m and d is 6.1 m. Assume that the bullet does not slow down as it passes through the window.

Explanation / Answer

direction of final velocity = tan-(0.46/6.1) = 4.31 degrees

so it horizonal como = 325 m/s ( as it doesn't cvhange)

s0 vcos4.31 = 325

v = 325.92 m/s

so vertical compo. = 24.50 m/s

so in vertical, using v = u +at

24.50 = 0 + 9.8t

t = 2.50 sec

H = ut + at^2 /2 = 0 + 9.8 x 2.5^2 /2 = 30.60 m

D = 325 x 2.50 = 812.5 m
