Experimental Design Project: 1) Observation that prompted you to design this experiment. 2) Question you are attempting to answer 3) Hypothesis 4) Experimental Design: a. List of Materials b. Description of procedure c. Variables you will be testing: i. Include all types of variables, independent, dependent, and standardized d. Treatments: i. Levels of treatments. (How will you vary your variables?) ii. Control treatment 5) Predictions: a. If the hypothesis is shown to be true then... b. If the hypothesis is proven false then... 6) Literature Review: a. A list of preliminary research material: 10 journal articles and no more than 5 websites.Explanation / Answer
Considering your project as Do different colors of light affects the direction of plants growth?(You have written planets by mistake I think)
Observations that prompted you to design this experiment:
Light appears colorless but light contains all of the colors of the visible light spectrum, from red to violet.
Plants utilize the different colors found in visible light to control different aspects of their growth.
Different colors of light can trigger or inhibit growth and flowering in plants.
Question You are attempting to answer:
How do different colors, of light affect the direction of plant growth?
Hypothesis: Different colors, of light definitely affect the direction of plant growth
Experimental Design
a)List of Materials:
4 colors of cellophane – red, blue, green and yellow, 5 medium sized plastic cup, 5 boxes big enough to cover a plastic cup and a germinating plant, 5 bean plant seeds, Potting soil, Water, Scissors, Tape, Ruler, Measuring cup, Log book, Well lit area to keep the boxes
b) Description of procedure:
1. Fill each of the plastic cups ¾ full with potting soil.
2. Plant one bean seed in each of the plastic cups. The seeds should be planted ½ inch deep in the soil. Add ¼ cup water to each cup.
3. Cut one end off the box.
4. Label each box.
5. Place the plastic cup holding a bean plant seed in each box.
6. Tape two layers of the desired color of cellophane on four of the boxes over the opening and over the top.
7. now there will be five boxes, four of them covered with red, blue, yellow and green cellophane and one without cellophane.
8. The box with no cellophane will get no colored light and will be used as the control.
9. Place the boxes (and the plastic cups) in an area that gets plenty of sunlight during the day.
10. Water each plant daily with required amount of water till 4 weeks.
11. Observe direction of growth of plant
12.Keep record of the plants’ growth every day or every other day
13. Take measurements of the length of the plants, note the color when the plants begin to germinate, describe the thickness of the stem, record the numbers of leaves present, measure the size of the leaves, etc. Keep all the information in your log book. Prepare bar graphs to compare the lengths of plants grown under each condition, the number of leaves, sizes of leaves, etc
14, Take pictures to understand effect of light on growth direction of plant
c) Variables you will be testing
Dependent variable: red, blue, yellow and green lights to study their effect on plant growth
d) Treatments:
i) Level of treatments: red, blue, yellow and green lights
ii) Control treatments: no colored light
Predictions:
If the hypothesis is shown to be true then colors of light affects the direction of plants growth
If the hypothesis is proven false then colors of light does not affects the direction of plants growth
