Question

Thanks. I got it so dont worry about this question i have no idea how to get this.. i have tried summing themoles (4.3 + .4) = 4.7 and tried .4/4.7 as well as 4.3 /4.7 nothing works here is the problem
A container encloses 4.3 mol of an ideal gas that has molarmass M1 and 0.40 mol of a second gas that has amolar mass of M2 = 4.2M1.What fraction of the total pressure on the container wall isattributable to the second gas? (The kinetic theory explanation ofpressure leads to the experimentally discovered law of partialpressures for a mixture of gases that do not react chemically:The total pressure exerted by the mixture is equal to the sumof the pressures that the several gases would exert separately ifeach were to occupy the vessel alone.) Explanation / Answer

P1V = n1RT P2V = n2RT (P1 + P2)V = (n1 +n2)RT so P2/(P1 + P2) =n2/(n1 + n2) = 0.4/4.7
