Explanation / Answer

The Given structure is Oleic acid consist 18 carbons with 1 double bond at 9. Now for the activation of oleate to oleoyl Co-A the energetic cost is equivalent to 2 ATP. This Oleoyl Co-A will enter into the Beta Oxidation.

Beta Oxidation

To the del position 9, there will be three beta oxidation reaction and will produce 3 acetyl Co-A and cis del3 Dodecenoyl Co-A. After that an isomerase, isomerises the position of double bond from 3 to 2. So, there will be 5 more beta oxidation reaction and will produce 6 acetyl Co-A.

There will be total 8 beta oxidation and 9 acetyl Co-A will be produced.

8 beta oxidation will produce 30.5 ATP. (due to double bond at 9 acyl Co-A dehydrogenase will be skipped and 1 FADH2 will not be produced.)

1 NADH = 2.5 ATP

1 FADH2= 1.5 ATP

Now these produced 9 acetyl Co-A will enter TCA cycle. 1 TCA cycle will produce 3 NADH, 1FADH2, 1 GTP. So, for 9 acetyl Co-A will produce 27 NADH, 9 FADH2, 9 GTP entering into Oxidative phosphorylation (ETC) will produce 90 ATP.

Now the total production of ATP will be

30.5 + 90 – 2 = 118.5 ATP
