Question

Use the following circuit made of four resistors and a battery to answer questions 5

Use the following circuit made of four resistors and a battery to answer questions 5-10. Note: All resistors have the same resistance, R = 5 ?, and the battery provides 50 V. What is the equivalent resistance of the circuit? What is the current throught the battery (main current)? What is the voltage across R1? What is the voltage across R4? What is the voltage across R2? What current passes through resistor R3?

Explanation / Answer

a) equivalent resistance = r+r/2+r=25/2. (r/2 because of paralell connection)

b) use v=i*r, this will give i=4amp

c)again from eq v=i*r , v1=4*5=20V,

d) v4=4*5=20V

e) as the r2 and r3 are in parallel the voltage will be same as that of the their equivqlent resistance, v=4*2.5=10V

f) as the voltage is 10 v and resistance is 5ohm then current is v/r=> 2 amp.
