Question

(a) What is the electric field at the sphere's surface?
1           N/C

(b) If V = 0 at infinity, what is the electric potential at the sphere's surface?
2           V

(c) At what distance from the sphere's surface has the electric potential decreased by  800 V?
3           m The answer to b is correct but i cant seam to get a and c please help A metal sphere of radius 13 cm has a net charge of 3.0 times 10-8 C. What is the electric field at the sphere's surface? If V = 0 at infinity, what is the electric potential at the sphere's surface? At what distance from the sphere's surface has the electric potential decreased by  800 V?

Explanation / Answer

a)E=kq/r^2

=9*10^9*3*10^-8/0.13^2

=15976.3 N/C

b)V=kq/R

=9*10^9*3*10^-8/0.13

=2076.92 V

c) let it be r.so,

9*10^9*3*10^-8/x=2076.92-800

or x=0.2144 m

=21.44 cm
