Object A has a mass of 3.2 kg and has a velocity vai = (2.3 m/s) + (4.2 m/s) and object B has a mass of 2.9 kg and has a velocity vbi = (-1.8 m/s) + (2.7 m/s) . Some time later, object A is seen to have a velocity vaf' = (1.7 m/s) + (3.5 m/s). What is the velocity of object B at that instant?

Please explain how I should do this I can't figure out the process! I think it has something to do with Pi = Pf conservation of momentum.

applying conservation of momentum in both coordinates

3.2*2.3+2.8*(-1.8)=3.2*1.7+2.8*x

x=-1.1m/s

3.2*4.2+2.9*2.7=3.2*3.5+2.9y

y=3.5m/s

so velocity is -(1.1i+3.5j)m/s
