Question
There's some questions I want to both double check and figure out because I am confused: Please show work at least to where the problem is set up or solve all the way
First, Two equal point charges of magnitude 5.0 microcoulombs are situated along the x-axis at x1=-2.0 m and x2= -2.0 m as well, is the electric potential energy of the system of charges 0 because they are at the same point? my answer choices are -36mj, 36mj, 0 mj, -72mj, and 72 mj.
2. a parallel plate capcitor has a potential difference between the plates of 80 V. If the charge on one of the plates of the capacitor is +8.0 microcoulombs, what is the electrical energy stored by this capacitor? Is it 1/2CV^2=320x10^-6 J??
3.A +8.00 microcoulomb charge is situated along the +y axis at y = 0.400m...what is the electric potential at the origin because of this charge?? This one confuses me because there is not a second charge at the origin so i dont know if you use U=kq/r or what lol
4. This one is really weird: A -4.0 microcoulomb charge is situated at the origin of an xy coordinate system. Another -4.0 microcoulomb charge is at y=4.0 m. What is the electric potential at a point x=3.0 m due to these two charges? there is no charge at x=3 so once again im confused. Answer choices are -3600 V, 3600V, -4800V, 4800 V or 0 V
5. At a certain point in space the electric potential is 20V. A 4 microcoulomb charge is brought from infinity to that point. What is the electric potential energy of this charge at that point?
Explanation / Answer
1.electric potential energy of system may be 0(zero)
2. energy of capacitor=1/2*qV=1/2*CV^2=1/2*8*10^-6*80=360*10^-6joule
3.yes we will use U=kq/r ,as there is no given charge we consider it to be unit charge.
4.potential at x=3m=kq1/r1+kq2/r2=k(-4*10^-6)/3+k(-4*10^-6)/5=-19200V
5.electric potential energy =q(final potential-initial potential)
=4*10^-6(20-0)
=8*10^-5joules
