Question

There will be 3 students working together for this experiment. Each student will perform the experiment on their own bulls eye. Students will share data at the end of the experiment. Place a bull's eye paper together with a carbon paper on the desk using tape. Be careful which one is the sensitive side of the carbon paper. The student will throw a ball at the bull's eye trying to aim in the center. Hold the ball once it touches the paper and be careful not to bounce back on the paper to make more marks. Repeat 7 times. Take away the bull's eye paper and measure using a ruler in cm the distances from the center to the mark left by the ball on the paper. Record your own data as Student 1 in Data Table. Using your calculator in statistic mode, calculate the average (mean). Using your calculator in statistic mode, calculate the standard deviation. Share your data with other 2 students and answer the questions.

Explanation / Answer

average mean = (x1 + x2 + x3 + ...+ xn)/n

                        = (1.5 + 1.64 + 1.76 + 1.85 + 1.91)/5

                        = 1.732 m

standard deviation = sqrt(X - xi)2/n

                              =   1.045 m
