Question
Find the gravitational force that the earth exerts on a 10.0 kgmass if it is placed at the following locations. Consult the figure 12.9 in the textbook, and assume a constant density through each of the interior regions (mantle, outer core, inner core), but not the same density in each of these regions. Use the graph to estimate the average density for each region.(a) at the surface of the earth; (b) at the outer surface of the molten outer core; (c) at the surface of the solid inner core; (d) at the center of the earth
I got part (a) and (d) correct but i cant figure out (c) and (d).. Can someone please help with with this problem? Thank you!!
Explanation / Answer
Gravitational force = G*M*m/r*r
d.) at the center of the earth gravitational force = 0
a.)Take these values
G = 6.67 x 10^-11 Nm^2/kg^2
r = 6400 km
b.) r = 2270 km
density = 11500 kg/m^3
c.) r = 1216
densirt = 13500 kg/m^3
