The Uniform electric field of a parallel plate capacitor means that the equipotential lines are spaced evenly between the plates. For example if one plate is at 10 V and the other is at -10V, and the plates are separated by 1mm, you could draw equipotential lines separated by 1 um and each would differ by 0.02 volts. How much work would it take to move an electron 5um in the direction of the negative plate?
If the electron in the previous problem was released from rest at the negative plate, what is its velocity as it reaches the positive plate?
THANK YOU!!!!
Explanation / Answer
W = vq
W = 5um* 10 =50 uJ
V^2 = 2eV/m
v=1.87 *10^6 m/s
