Knowing this information, what are positive impacts of these findings? Could there be career suitability or possibly recruitment for these people? Such as military, air traffic control? Recent researcher has discovered that individuals who have a variation of the DRD2 gene, are resilient to the effects of sleep deprivation. Knowing this information, what are positive impacts of these findings? Could there be career suitability or possibly recruitment for these people? Such as military, air traffic control?Explanation / Answer
DRD2 is the dopamine receptor gene. It influences processing of information in humans. There are 3 variations of the gene. Most common two variations when present in people then, sleep deprivation causes struggle to do simple tasks, but people with a special 3rd variation of DRD2 gene, are resilient to the effect of sleep deprivation when it comes to cognitive flexibility ( i.e. decision making ability during change of informaton.
Cognitive flexibility is very much important in military, air traffic control. and people who are in these fields, they dont get much time to sleep due to their hectic schedule.sleep deprivation can cause problem on their decision making ability, ability to focus and on the spot problem solving capability. if people with this variation of DRD2 are chosen for these fields, they will be resilient to the effects of sleep deprivation. So their abilities wont be hampered.
