A woman can read the large print in a newspaper only when it is at a distance of 68 cm or more from her eyes. (a) Is she nearsighted (myopic) or farsighted (hyperopic), and what kind of lens is used in her glasses to correct her eyesight? (b) What should be the refractive power (in diopters) of her glasses (worn 2.5 cm from the eyes), so she can read the newspaper at a distance of 22 cm from the eyes?

(a)
As women is able to seea distance of 68 cm or more from her eyes.
so,she has difficulty reading close objects.
So she is
farsighted (hyperopic)
To correct her eyesight converging lens or convex lens will be used.
(b)
u = 22 cm -2.5cm = 19.5 cm
v = 67-2.5= 64.5 cm
1/v+1/u =1/f
1/f =0.0357 (u +ve and v -ve)
f=27.95 cm
Power = 100/f = +3.58D
