A 5.57-kg object passes through the origin at time t = 0 such that its x component of velocity is 5.40 m/s and its y component of velocity is -3.3 m/s.

(a) What is the kinetic energy of the object at this time?

(b) At a later time t = 2.00 s, the particle is located at x = 8.50 m and y = 5.00 m. What constant force acted on the object during this time interval?

Mag =

Direction =

(c) What is the speed of the particle at t = 2.00 s?

Explanation / Answer

a) Vnet = sqrt ( 5.4^2 + 3.3^2) = 6.33 m/s

KE = 1/2 mv^2 = 111.59 J

b) in x axis

8.5 = 5.4 *2 + 1/2a*4

a = -1.15 m/s^2

in y axis

5 = -3.3*2 +1/2a*4

11.6 = 1/2 a*4

a = 5.8 m/s^2

force = ma = 5.57 ( -1.15 i + 5.8 j) = -6.4 i + 32.3 j

mag = 32.9 m/s

direction = 101.2 deg

c)in x axis

v =u+at = 3.1 m/s

in y axis

v = u+at = 8.3 m/s

speed = sqrt( 3.1^2 + 8.3^2 ) = 8.8 m/s
