FAMILIARIZATION OF A DC GENERATOR OBJECTIVES To be familiar with the general parts of the direct current generator . To give the function of the general parts of a direct current generator BASIC CONCEPTS: BASIC PARTS OF A DC GENERATOR 1. MAGNETIC FIELD A permanent magnet procedures a magnetic fiald through which the coil is rotated. Maarge DC Generators use a field coil instead of a magnet to procedure the magnetic field. 2. ARMATURE The armature rotates through the magnetic field, cutting the lines of magnetic force. This procedure an electrical current within the armature coil. 3. COMMUTATOR The commutator is attached to the coil. In a simple DC Generator, this is a pair of split rings. The commutator transfers the curent from the wire coil to the brushes. In a DC generator, the commutator keeps the current at the brushes positive. 4. Brushes The brushes are in the constant contact with the commutator and are attached to the wires leading from the generator. The commutator spin while the brushes remain stationary, transferring current from the commutator.

Explanation / Answer

I understood the working operation and function of general parts of DC generator. DC generator converts the mechanical energy into electrical energy. It is works based on magnetic field. When armature rotates then electricity will produce and current passes through the commutator which has attached to the coil. Bruses have constant contact with the commutator these are used to transfer positive current. The mechanical energy has given by rotating turbines with water, steam or any other method to rotate coil by using shaft. We drawn the cut-away view of DC generator.
