Question

The LM358 op amp can be a single or dual supply op-amp. This mean that it can operate with just a single supply i.e. + 5 volt or with dual supplies i.e. (+ and -) 5 volt supplies. With an inverting configuration with dual supplies (+5v and -5v) being supplied to the LM358 Please answer the following questions. 1. What is the gain formula for an inverting op amp?
13
2. With this configuration, is there a maximum output voltage peak to peak, if so what would it be? 3. This op amp is configured for a gain of 10. Input signal is an AC sine wave signal. What is the maximum AC peak to peak voltage input? 4. What happens to your output signal when the input signal is above the maximum peak to peak input voltage?

Explanation / Answer

LM 358 can powered by both single and dual power supplies.

> Range of Single power supply is from 3V to 32V.

> Range of dual power supplies is from + or -1.5V to + or -16V

1- Gain formula

G= - (RF / Ri )

where RF =Resistance Feedback

Ri =Resistance Input

2-if we are using dual supply for example +5 and -5 volts, then maximum  output voltage peak to peak is 10 volts

3- if gain is 10 and supply is +5 and -5 volt dual supply then maximum peak to peak input voltage is 1 volt if it is greater than that then the ouput get distorted like the peak is clipped if the output voltage exceed +5 volt and -5 volt.
