5' Cap is added to the eukaryotic mRNA after mRNA synthesis after transcription. This is the step comes under post-transcription modification. Cap is important to maintain the stability of mRNA in the cytoplasmic side. With out CAP the mRNA is degraded by the enzymes and protein synthesis is halted. Without protein, cells not able to function properly and leads to death.
