Question

planning to market a cheap stage-scanning two-photon laserscanning microscope, packaged with its own infinity corrected objective lens, and are making some amazing claims for the performance of their system. The overall specs are that this is a two lens infinity-corrected system that uses a 1.33 NA objective lens, has a tube lens focal length of 160 mm, an objective lens focal length of 8 mm, and was tested using 800 nm excitation light

() they have constructed a special water immersion objective lens with an NA of 1.33 and a focal length of 0.8cm,) (this is the claim)

What is wrong with their claim for their objective lens?^

Explanation / Answer

As the objective lense has NA 1.33 and it is filled with water with same NA of 1.33 and so ligh traveling through it will never feel the curvature as it has the same refractive index and so one can not produce lense with focal length on 0.8 cm. For the same either it should be air lense or glass lense with NA higher that water if our objective is to have water filled lense.
