Application of finite element analysis in the medical fields with focusing on the bone structure.
Research in different areas of orthopedic requires a methodology that allows both a more economic approach and ability to reproduce different situations. Many simulation models have been introduced recently in bio engineering and could become an essential tool in the study. Finite element simulation lets us know the bio medical, biochemical changes that takes place after the hip prosthesis or osteosynthesis implementation and biological responses of bone to the biochemical changes.
The simulation models are able to predict changes in bone stress distribution around the implant, so allowing preventing future pathologies. The development of a FE model of lumbar spine i.e another interesting application of the simulation by FE analysis.
The model allows research on the lumbar spine not only in physical condition but also simulating different load conditions to assess impact on bio mechanics. Different degrees of disc generation can also be simulated to determine the impact on adjacent anatomical elements.
Finite element(FE) model analysis may be useful to test different Fixation systems such that pedicular screws, inter body devices, or rigid fixations compared with the dynamic ones. We can also develop the model. For the hip joint to predict the occurrence of osteoporosis fractures based on densitometric determinations by including model for damaging and fracture mechanics.
We can also develop mode using FE analysis for angle moment curves that characterize the mechanical behaviour.
The steps that to follow:
Importing CI scan data into CAD software.
3D Model preparation
Exporting model to COSMOL software
Meshing the model
Applying loads on boundary conditions
State model analysis using finite element
Calculate the T score for analyzed results
Identifying types of fractures
Comparing the results with WHO (World Health Organization)
