Question
After consuming an extra Snickers bar (250 Cal), a 140-lb person decides to work it off by walking the dog at 2.5 mph. Here, MET = 3 for walking the dog.
1. How far must the person walk to burn off the Snickers bar? Round the final answer to two decimal places. (Answer in miles)
2. Instead of walking, she has decided to play singles tennis (MET = 8). Calculate the time taken by her to burn off the candy. Round the final answer to one decimal place. (Answer in min)
3. Calculate her VO2 while playing tennis. Round the final answer to two decimal places. (Answer in liters/min)
Explanation / Answer
1.
How much calorie burn by a person can be calculated by using the below formula :
Calorie = MET x weight of person (kg ) x time ( hours )
Here,
Weight of person = 140 lb = 63.5 kg
Then,
250 = 3 x 63.5 x Hours
Hours = 1.31 hours
Now we know,
Speed = distance / time
2.5 = distance / 1.31
Distance = 3.28 miles
B)
Again,
Calorie = MET x w x h
250 = 8 x 63.5 x h
H = 0.4985
H = 50 minutes
3)
MET = VO2 / 3.5
8 x 3.5 = VO2
VO2 = 28
