Question

6. A ball is thrown upward with an initial velocity of 25 m/s. Using g a) What ) What are th c) What d) At what time does the ball reach its highest point? are the magnitude and direction of its velocity 1.0 sec after it is thrown? e magnitude and direction of its velocity 2.0 sec after it is thrown? are the magnitude and direction of its velocity 3.0 sec after it is thrown? 7. Mass & Weight (using g 9.8 m/s?) a) Define each one b) Compute the weight of a 90-kg mass c) Compute the mass of a 200-N weight the grasrtatoal S the that

Explanation / Answer

We will use here,

v = u + at

v - final velocity

u - initial velocity

u = 25 m/s (given)

t - time

a = -g (-ve sign is because the motion is in opposite direction of acceleration i.e. ita case of deceleration)

g=10 m/ s2 (given)

Answer a)

For t = 1s

v = 25 - 10 * 1

v = 15 m/s in upward direction

Answer b)

For t = 2s

v = 25 - 10 * 2

v = 5 m/s in upward direction

Answer c )

For t = 3s

v = 25 - 10 * 3

v = - 5 m/s

which means

v= 5 m/s in downward direction

Answer d )

When ball reaches its highest point, then v =0

substituting v =0 in

v = u + at

0 = 25 - 10 t

t = 2.5 seconds

At t = 2.5 seconds ball reaches at highest point
