Question
7, al Describe the similarities and differences between the following terms: resistance, capacitive reactance, inductive reactance, and impedance. b) In an RLC circuit, the impedance Z is given by: Minimum impedance in such a circuit occurs when Xi Xc Since both inductive and capacitive reactances are frequency dependent, there is a frequency of alternating current where their reactances will be equal. If the capacitor C-10.0uF and the inductor L-0.10H, find the frequency fwhere their reactances will be equal.Explanation / Answer
a) resistance : resistance is a measure of how strongly a material or circuit element opposes electric current through it.
capacitive reactance : It is the resisatnce offered by a capacitor to AC current.
inductive reactance : It is the resistance offered by an inductor to AC current.
impedance : The overall resistance offred by the circuit is called impedance of the circuit.
b)
when XC = XL, z becomes minimum.
1/(2*pi*f*C) = 2*pi*f*L
1/(4*pi^2*L*C) = f^2
==> f = sqrt(1/(4*pi^2*L*C))
==> f = 1/(2*pi*sqrt(L*C))
= 1/(2*pi*sqrt(0.1*10*10^-6))
= 159 Hz
