Explanation / Answer

given R1 = 5 ohms , R2 = 8 ohms and R3 = 9 ohms

v = 23 v

A) equivalent resistance R = R1 + R2 + R3

= 5 + 8 + 9

= 22 ohms

b) current in the circuit i = V / R

= 23/22

= 1.045 A

The same current flow through the all resistors connected in series

hence current through 5 ohms = 1.045 A

current through 8 ohms = 1.045 A

current through 9 ohms = 1.045 A

c) now equivalant resistance R = (R1R2 + R2R3 + R3R1) / ( R1+R2+R3)

= ( 40 + 72 + 45 ) / (5+8+9)

= 7.14 ohms

current through 5 ohms = V/R1 = 23 / 5 = 4.6 A

current through 8 ohms = V/R2 = 23/8 = 2.9 A

current through 9 ohms = V/R3 = 23/9 = 2.5 A
