K ch8 Exercise 8.46 Constants Part C A 0.144 kg glider is moving to the right on a frictionless, horizontal air track with a speed of 0 820 m/s It has a head-on collision with a 0.306 kg glider that is moving to the left with a speed of 2.14 m/s Suppose the collisioidstic Find the magnitude of the final velocity of the 0.306 kg glider 3.88 m/s Submit Previous Answers Request Answer X Incorrect: Try Again; no points deducted Part D Find the direction of the final velocity of the 0.306 kg glider

Explanation / Answer

from conservation of momentum:

(0.144 x 0.82) - (0.306 x 2.14) = 0.144*V1 + 0.306*V2 ........(1)

- 0.53676 = 0.144*V1 + 0.306*V2

V2 - V1 = 0.82 + 2.14

V2 = 2.96 + V1

Putting in above equation (1)

- 0.53676 = 0.144*V1 + 0.306*(2.96 + V1)

-0.53676 = 0.144*V1 + 0.90576 + 0.306*V1

-1.44252 = 0.45V1

V1 = -3.2 m/s

magnitude is V1 = 3.2 m/s

V2 = 0.306 + 3.2

V2 = 3.506 m/s
