Question

Two Speaker Interference Due in 2 hours, 45 minutes There are two speakers at the front of the room. Each is outputting a 250Hz pure tone. For each of the following situations, will you hear constructive interference (a loud noise) or destructive interference (soft or no noise). A represents the wavelength of the 250Hz tone. You are 3A away from speaker A; 4A away from speaker B and at the speakers the waves are exactly Destructive out of phase. You are 3A away from speaker A; 4A away Constructive from speaker B and at the speakers the waves are exactly in phase. Destructive You are 2.5A away from speaker A; 3A away from speaker B and at the speakers the waves are exactly out of phase. Constructive You are 3.5A away from speaker A; 3A away from speaker B and at the speakers the waves are exactly irn phase. Submit AnswerIncorrect. Tries 6/10 Previous Tries

Explanation / Answer

I would be using 'l' as the symbol for wavelength

We know that,

It is a conatuctive interference when the path difference is an intergeral multiple of nl

Where n is any integer and l is the wavelength.

It is destructive interference when it is an integral multiple of (2n+1)l

So,

For first case.

Path difference = l

So, it will be a constructive interface

Second case, path difference =7l

So it will also be a constructive interference.

Third case,

Path difference will be 0.5l

So it will be a destructive interference.

Fourth case,

Path difference will be 7.5l

So again it will be a destructive interference
