Question

1, Two circular loops of wire, each containing a single turn, have the same radius of 4.70 cm and a common center. The planes of the loops are perpendicular. Each carries a current of 1.90 A. What is the magnitude of the net magnetic field at the common center?

A square coil of wire containing a single turn is placed in a uniform 0.32-T magnetic field, as the drawing shows. Each side has a length of 0.41 m, and the current in the coil is 10 A. Determine the magnitude of the magnetic force on (a) the top and (b) left sides.

Explanation / Answer

Given

r = 4.7 cm ; I = 1.9 A

We know that

B = u0 I/2 r

B = 4 pi x 10^-7 x 1.9/2 x 0.047 = 2.54 x 10^-5 T

It will be same for both, so the net field will be:

Bnet = sqrt (B^2 + B^2) = sqrt (2)B

Bnet = 1.414 x 2.54 x 10^-5 = 3.6 x 10^-5 T

Hence, B = 3.6 x 10^-5 T
