Question
Explanation to the Answer (D) Toward the left direction. A The figure to the right shows a long, straight wire that has a steady current ,in the small object with charge +q hangs from a thread near the wire. A student wants to investigate the magnetic force on the object due to the current but is not able to observe or measure changes in the tension in the string. Of the following actions that the student can take, which will allow the student to observe a reaction of the object due to the magnetic force on it? 3· t9 (A) Holding the object motionless (B) Moving the object in a circle that is centered on the wire and in the x-z plane (C) Moving the object in the-x-direction out of the page) Moving the object in the ty directionExplanation / Answer
According to Thumb rule, If the current flowing towards +Y - direction, the magnetic field due to electric current acts around the wire in an anti-clockwise circular direction. As shown in figure, the magnetic fild right side to wire is in "into the page", or in X-Z plane.
The magnetice force influences the charged object only when it is under motion/movement.
Again, the net magnetic force is applied on an object, only when is motion is perpendicure to magnetic filed.
Since the magnetic field is in X-Z plane, the object must has it's motion perpendicular to it, i.e in Y- Direction.
So answer is --- Option (D)
