RMS speed of gases is given by:

Vrms = sqrt (3RT/Mw)

Molecular weight of O2 = 32

Molecular weight of N2 = 28

At constant temperature, We can see that Vrms is inversely proportional to the square root of molecular weight.

Since N2 has lower Mw than O2, So rms speed of N2 will be greater than rms speed of O2

Vrms_N2/Vrms_O2 = sqrt (Mw_O2/Mw_N2)

Vrms_N2/Vrms_O2 = sqrt (32/28) = 1.069
