Question
A Two-Lens System 1 of 5 A compound lens system consists of two converging lenses, one at r20.0 cm with focal length f1 +10.0 cm, and the other at z = t 20.0 cm with focal length f2 +8.00 cm. (Figure 1)An object 1.00 centimeter tall is placed at z =-50.0 cm. Part A What is the location of the final image produced by the compound lens system? Give the x coordinate of the image. Express your answer in centimeters, to three significant figures or as a fraction. for first lens:
f1 = 10 cm
object distance, p1 = -20 + 50 = 30 cm
1/f1 = 1/p1 + 1/q1
1/10 = 1/30 + 1/q1
q1 = 15 cm
Now for second lens:
f2 = 8 cm
p2 = 40 - 15 = 25 cm
1/f2 = 1/p2 + 1/q2
1/8 = 1/25 + 1/q2
q2 = 11.8 cm
x = 20 + 11.8 = 31.8 cm .....Ans
(D) if we want same effect from a single lens at origin,
then p = 50 cm
q = 31.8 cm
1/f = 1/p + 1/q
1/f = 1/50 + 1/31.8
f = 19.4 cm
