Question

can you help me solving this question?

Consider the acceleration of a good sports car in real life versus the theoretical limit based on Newton's 2nd law.

The Lamborghini Aventador LP-700-4 and the LP-720-4 accelerates from 0-100 Kmph in 2.9 s

Find the acceleration data of your favorite sports car(s) and convert the result to m/s2. Now compare this with the theoretical upper limit of the acceleration, based on the assumption that the car is traveling on a level concrete road with rubber tires, without consideration of air friction and aerodynamic effects of such items as the tail stabilizer (if any). In this case, the only external force pushing the car forward is the static friction between the tires and the road. When that force maxes out, so does the acceleration of the car. Does the performance of your dream car exceed what's theoretically possible? And if so, what was wrong with the theory?

Explanation / Answer

suppose i chose McLaren 570S

which takes 3sec to reach 60mph

v1 = 0;

v2 = 60mph = 60*0.44704m/s = 26.424m/s .................(1mph=.44704m/s)

a = (v2-v1)/t = (26.424 - 0) / 3 = 8.808m/sec square

so this is the theoretical acceleration which we should get in ideal condition but since we cant reach ideality so we got only 7m/sec square as our acceleration. our performance can never exceed the theoretical possible because in theory we talk about ideality and we cant ever reach to ideality when we are in our practical lives
