Question
Questions ssume you are going to race the three objects (hollow sphere, disk and ring used in Experiment 8.2) by releasing them from rest at the top of an inclined plane (Fig. 2 of Experiment. 8.1). Which object do you expect to reach the bottom of the inclined plane first? Why? Which object (hollow sphere, disk and ring in Experiment 8.2) has the largest moment of inertia? oes the object with the largest moment of inertia reach the bottom of the inclined plane first (i ace described in question 1)?Explanation / Answer
1) I would expect the sphere to move the fastest because it has the lowest inertia, therefore less of the force will go towards turning the sphere and instead push the object down the inclined plane.
2) The sphere has the largest moment of inertia and therefore would reach the bottom of the plane last.
3) The sphere has the largest value c and thus would be the first object to reach the bottom of the incline.
