BIO 205 Assignment Article Analysis The purpose of this assignment is to help you develop the a bility to analyze and scientific research articles. This skill is the primary differentiator bet ent who understands science and one who doesnt. Someone who p competency in this ability will be able to learn about the latest advances i of biology by reading articles written by researchers in the field. This skill will c basic again if you choose to take further classes in either biology or nursing This assignment is due by Friday, March 9th. They are written i formalized style, which will be hard to follow until you get used to it. They als Eval you are familiar with information. Here are a few tips that will help: 1) Start the field, so they won't spend much time covering backg Abstract, Figures, and Tables The a ning. This is usually written in a smaller font, and its purpose summary of the article. You should read this first. Then take your time look figures and tables, which are the core of any scientific article. This should g general idea of what the article is about. When you're finished doing this yo the very begin back to the beginning and read the article all the way through 2) If You Don't Know It, Google It - There are a lot of words in your art unfamiliar to you. This will happen a lot recommend keeping a list of definitions you can refer to. 3) Take Notes as You Read It helps to write a summary of the article a through it. This allows you to make sure you understand what's going on, when it's time to write your analysis. I know these three tips look like unnecessary work. This will allow me to grade it more quickly. I've included a bri I expect in each section below: 1) Purpose - explain why the researchers are performing this series of ex are they hoping to learn? Purpose of the Experiment:
Perturbation of gut microbiota may cause invasive pathogenicity which is also known as colonization resistance. By the treatment of Antibiotics like Ampicillin, Cefoperazone, Ciprofloxacin, Clindamycin, Metronidazole, Streptomycin, and Vancomycin the rupture of gut microbial flora has occurred which leads to Colonize Clostridium difficile. The main purpose of this experiment is to observe the roles of the antibiotics on the perturbation of gut microbial colony and subsequently how it helps C. difficile to colonize.
Methodology:
(Note: Nothing is clear in the images)
But still, as I can assume the whole research work is tested on C57BL/6 types of mice and they are injected with six different types of antibodies, where Cefoperazone, vancomycin, streptomycin, metronidazole, and ampicillin are dosed with drinking water in specific concentration, Ciprofloxacin is dosed via oral gavage and, Clindamycin is injected directly. As C. difficile can't attack Mice without perturbation, thus no Negative Control is taken.
Diluted C. difficile strains are directly injected into the mice in which of them the perturbation occurred
Fecal samples are collected from the injected mouse and are plated on TCCFA media, DNA is extracted from the colony culture and by checking the presence by gel electrophoresis, the DNA is sequenced for modeling.
Results and Conclusion
