Question

23- Figure 3 below represents the data for the mobility study of three different proteins (X, Y, and Z) using the fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP) technique. a. Use these data to range the proteins according to their diffusion rate. b. Which of these proteins is probably an anchored protein? Explain. PROTEIN X PROTEIN Y PROTEIN Z bleach bleach bleach time time ime Figure 3 24- Consider the apical location of a particular protein (protein A) expressed in epithelial cells, as illustrated in Figure Figure 4A bellow. Which type of defect is likely to cause the redistribution of that protein around the entire cell as shown in Figure 4B?

Explanation / Answer

23.

a. Diffusion rare from highest to lowest: protein X> protein Z> protein Y. As shown in picture time taken for recovery after bleching is lowest in protein X means it diffuse easily.

b. Anchored proteins are covalently bound to the lipids so they can't dissociate easily. Here protein Y is probably an anchored protein as after bleaching no diffusion occurs and it has not recovered.
