Question
1.A charged particle passes through a uniform magnetic field and has a circular path as shown.
a)Is the charge negatively or positively charged? Why?
b)) The particle’s speed is 140 m/s, the magnetic field strength is 0.48 T, and the radius of the path is 980 m. If this particle has a charge of 8.2x10-4 C, what is its mass?
Here is my attempt at part b:
r = mv/qB
980 m = (mass)(140 m/s)/(8.2*10^-4 C)(0.48 T)
mass = 2.7*10^-6 kg.
Is my attempt at part b correct? How does one find the answer to part a? Would it be positively charged since the value given in part b is positively charged?
Explanation / Answer
The particle is postive. Reason: According Fleming Right hand thumb rule the Thumb represets the direction of magnetic field B the direction of curved fingers shows the direction of velocity of particle if it is postive particle is positive the diretion is anticlockwise. negative clock wise.Related Questions
