Question

A 2kg RC Plane has radius of gyration in pitch of 0.27m. For the given forces calculate the following: Vertical acceleration Horizontal acceleration Rotational acceleration As the thrust increases how will the above accelerations be affected? (assuming the thrust does not affect the wing or elevator toads) The RC pilot is able to adjust the load on both the elevator (currently 1N) and the wing (currently 21N) to allow for level flight (i.e. no rotational acceleration, no vertical acceleration). The thrust minus the drag (the 12N force) remains constant. Calculate the required wing and elevator forces for this condition.

Explanation / Answer

a) vertical acceleration = f/M=(21-1)/2= 10m/s^2

b)horizontal acceleration a =0

c) rotational acceleration = Torque/I

= [21*0.050-1*0.450]/(2*0.27^2)

= 4.115 rad/s^2
