Question
Hello, this is from thermodynamics problem.
I will rate the answer according to its completeness and legiblity.
My initial thought is to first calculate the amount of work (J) needed by 65kg person to climb 10m (W = F * d)
and calculate how much moles of glucose oxidation is needed using the given gibbs free energy.
Only I don't know how to do that exactly,
Many thanks in advance.
The change in Gibbs energy that accompanies the oxidation of C&H120s; (s) to carbon dioxide and water vapor at 25°C is -2808 kJ mol1. How much glucose does a person of mass 65 kg need to consume to climb through 10 m? Hint: think about how much work is done (in Joules) while climbing 4.Explanation / Answer
energy required to climb 10 m = mgh
= 65*9.8*10 = 6370 J
moles of glucose required to climb
= 6370 / (2808*1000)
= 0.0030625 moles
