Question
A box of mass M=500 kg hangs by a rope from a beam with dimensions a=2.0 m and b=3.0 m. The beam has mass m=85 kg. Find the tension T_c in the cable and the magnitude of the net force F exerted on the beam by the hinge. (Engineering firms usually need to calculate this to make sure that the beam is strong enough for a certain load).Can u show me work? pretty complicated!
"Tension = Mg = 500 x 9.8
T = 4900 N
let the hinge forces are F1 and F2
F1 + F2 = (M + m)g
here F1 = F2
2F1 = 585 x 9.8
F1 = 2866.5 N = F2 "
Do we ignore the given a and b?
Explanation / Answer
yup..u will have to ignore a and b as it is considered a symmetrical beam and magnitude of forces are equal..so your answer is right..:)
