Question
The quietest sound you can hear is 0 dB. Assume that a human ear canal has a diameter of about 8.4 mm. At 0 dB, how much sound power is "captured" by one ear? (Ignore any focusing of energy by the pinna, the external folds of your ear.)
I know 0dB means that I=1.0*10^-12 and the equation I need is P=IxA and A=4*pi*r^2 but for some reason, even after I tried the area equation with A=pi*r^2 just incase, I keep getting the wrong answer. I don't know what I am doing wrong. And yes, I convert the 8.4mm to meters and divide by two to get the radius. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Explanation / Answer
P=IA
P=10-12**(.0084/2)2
P=5.542x10-17 watts
I'm not sure if this the answer you were getting, but I'd make sure you are putting this in the units they want. If this is what you were getting, then I'm not sure why it doesn't work.
Hope it works
