Question
Use the laws of conservation to determine the final velocities of the objects involved in each of the following collisions.
1. m1= 10kg, v1i= 6m/s (See bellow for directions of initial and final velocities.)
m2= 10 lg, v2i= 0 (See below for direction of final velocity).
2. m1= 10 kg, v1i= 12m/s (see below for directions of initial and final velocities).
m2= 20 kg, v2i= 0 (See below for direction of final velocity).

Explanation / Answer
for elastic collision,
conserving momrntum on x-direction only
m1v1i + m2v2i = m1v1f + m2v2f A
conserving momentum on y-direction
m1v1fsin1=m2v2fsin2 B
1> applying B,
10*v1f*sin30 =10*v2f*sin60 =>v1f= 3v2f
applying A,
10*6 +10*0 =10*v1f cos30 +10*v2f cos 60 =>12=3v1f +v2f
substituting values from A in B,
12=3*(3v2f)+v2f =>12=4v2f => v2f=3
=>v1f=33
similarly do the the next one
