A dog, with a mass of 9.0 kg, is standing on a flatboat so that he is 24.4 m from the shore. He walks 6.5 m on the boat toward the shore and then stops. The boat has a mass of 40.0 kg. Assuming there is no friction between the boat and the water, how far is the dog from the shore now?Explanation / Answer
m1 * L1 + m2 * L2 = 0 ( where m1 and m2 are masses of dog and boat repectively , L1 and L2 are change in positions of dog and boat repectively
=> 9*( - 6.5 + L) + 40*(L)=0
=> L = 1.194
Distance of the dog from the shore now = 24.4 - 6.5 + L = 19.094m
