Question

I got this wrong and I am curious what the correct answer would be?

Questions 1-4 are about three lipids, U, C, and I. These three phospholipids, U, C, and I, need to be distributed in the plasma membrane (the cell surface) in the proper leaflet (side) of the bilayer If all of lipid X needs a flippase, which side of the bilayer will U be found?ner 2. If none of lipid Y needs a lippase, which side of the bilayer will C be found?uts 3. If some of lipid Z needs a flippase, which side of the bilayer will Ibe found? inne outer

Explanation / Answer

Flippase , a p-type ATPase transports glycerophospholipids from outer layer to the cytoplasmic surface of plasma membrane.

Floppase , ABC transport proteins, transport lipid from cytoplasmic surface to outer monolayer.

Here if all lipid U needs a flippase , it will bind cytoplasmic surface of the membrane ( inner part)

If none lipid C needs floppase , then it will bind to outer surface of membrane.

If some lipid I needs a flippase then some of lipid I will binds to inner membrane.

[ I have consulted with two books for this and I am very sure about my answer. I suggest you to read the whole question again and find out about lipid X ,Y ,z]
