Question
A daredevil is shot out of a cannon at 41.6 degrees to the horizontal with an initial speed of 31.5 m/s. A net is positioned a horizontal distance of 45.9m from the cannon. At what height above the cannon should the net be placed in order to catch the daredevil? The acceleration of gravity is 9.8 m/s^2.Knowns: Ax=0, Vxi=31.5cos41.6, Vxf=31.5cos 41.6, DeltaX= 45.9, Ay= -9.8 m/s^2
I think I am supposed to find my DeltaY value but have no idea where to go. I began by solving for time (which is the same in the x and y components) but not sure if I even solved correctly or got the knowns correct.
Solving for t: DeltaX= 31.5cos41.6*t
t= 1.95s
Please teach me how to solve this, and let me know if/ what I did wrong thus far. Thanks! (You will be rated for your answer/ efforts- thanks!)
Explanation / Answer
ax = 0, Vix = 31.5cos(41.6), Viy = 31.5sin(41.6), X = 45.9 m, ay= -9.8 m/s2
X = 31.5cos(41.6)*t, t = 1.95 s
y = viyt + ayt2/2 = 22.1 m
