List and describe the constraints on natural selection . Why does natural selection not produce "perfect" organisms?Explanation / Answer
1) It was charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace who independently formulated the ideas of natural selection. According to them, natural selection was one of the most reasonable cause for evolution. It was them who first gave the evidence for evolution of a species from a common ancestor and thereby to evolution. This finding made by them was so revolutionary because it was the first scientific explanation that supported the idea that life on earth arose by a purely natural process. This discovery has infact turned the feild of biology or even the entire scientific world upside down and the statement made by them was without any precedent in scientific history. And also until then there was a belief that life on earth was evolved and guided by some supernatural power. This was totally controversial and an odd idea for the society during that time. It even challenged the religious dogmas.
It was due to this reasons that Darwins and Wallace's theory was revolutionary.
2) The main postulates of Darwin's theory of natural selection are,
The modern verion of Darwinism is is also called as Neo-Darwinism or Modern synthetic theory of evolution. This adds informations from Mendelian genetics also.
According to Neo darwinism evolution occurs by natural seleection of genetically modified characters.
